VC critique 3

I feel that this ad is too exaggerating because a normal knife will not be able to be that sharp to cut the whole chopping board. This makes people unable to believe in the product. Although it is good that the person tries to make things more fun and creative, I feel that it's really unbelievable. Furthermore if one were to think deeper into it, it might actually appeal to people who might buy the knife to hurt others. I don't think that anyone in the right state of mind will buy the knife after seeing the ad. Too much doubts about the product and which makes it a bit of a cheat as well.

Here are other ads for the same company and most of their ads are all really exaggerated. It might be the designer's idea to make everything dramatic which is a plus point because the ideas are creative and bold, however I'll definitely have my doubts in buying the product.

VC critique 2

This is a print ad for Magnum ice cream and this ad uses sex appeal because if one sees closely, the 2 ice cream in front is actually shaped like a butt and when one sees the whole picture, it's actually like a woman standing up in a sexy pose. I think it is really creative although most ice cream ads seems to associate themselves with sex appeal but I find that it is different from others because other ads tend to use real woman to attract people to buy it but this uses a different approach. Also, some people might not be able to tell the meaning to the ad at first look, this allows people to think as well. Although this is a creative ad, I feel that it's not very good for young children to look at because of the hidden meaning behind it. Also, even if one were to look at it without thinking of the hidden meaning, it doesn't appeal to people because it's quite plain and dull. I think that there can be more room for improvement though!(:

VC critique 1

This is a print ad for mercedes benz and I think it's pretty creative because the person in the picture actually has "2 faces" which creates an illusion.
The guy is actually facing the front but his eyes are facing the side, which shows that one can actually look straight without having to turn their head to the side to check for other vehicles.
Also, according to the text written on the side, the writer uses pun by saying "look to the side without looking to the side."
The first time I look at the print ad, it actually captured my attention because of the person's face and after reading the words, I feel that I actually understand what the person is trying to say and I think this is a pretty good ad because it is creative and also makes people think.
This will attract car buyers to want to buy the car because one does not have to keep turning their heads to look at oncoming vehicles.
Of course ads tend to be exaggerative and one should just take it with a pinch of salt!

VC day 11

Lately, we have been working on our upcoming CA and here are some photos during the whole process.

This was actually my 1st design but the colours were more colourful and vibrant but I felt that it wasn't very nice and I din't want this design to begin with but the lecturer told me to show him one of my design so I didn't think much and showed him this.

I decided to change my design because i thought it was better to change to something more simple and people will be able to understand and chose pictures that had link to business.
However, my lecturer told me I can't just change the design just because I feel like it and I felt that what he said was true.
So I decided to stick to my original one and changed the colours and improve on it because my lecturer told me the colours I used were inappropriate.
I just hope that the end product will turn out well and that I can do well for this to pull up my grade.

VC day 10

We have been doing research and sketches for our upcoming CA,
which is to do a corporate brochure.
Now that we are more familiar with InDesign, it's easier for us to do it and lesser mistakes were made as we were doing it.

Here are some examples of what we did today:
I felt that my brochure wasn't good enough because it doesn't looks good but turns out the lecturer was fine with it!
I had to touch up on some of the things though!
Some covers that we were told to do.

Oh and we got back our previous CA today.
Just passed but I actually expected it because I know I didn't put in much effort to complete the work.
But no one told me that there were things I wasn't supposed to do so I felt kind of upset about it.
But it's ok!
I told myself I'll work hard for the brochure CA and get an A to pull my grade up (:

VC day 9

We started off last week with learning more things from photoshop and here are some visuals.
It was pretty tough as more things were introduced and some of the steps were quite complicated and I think a lot of us weren't really able to catch up.
But still we managed to pull through the lesson and here are some of the end products!
Cropping and pasting the animals on the background.
We were taught to use to feather and shadow tool to make the animals look "real" and one cool thing was the cutting of the polar bear's leg to make it look like it's submerged in the water.
Changing the colour of the water and adding more fish and water plants.
Mine looks a bit fake though :P
This is so cool because we can create our own poloraid and make it look real.
However, I spent quite some time on this because I wasn't able to crop it well as the picture just becomes blur whenever it is minimised.
But thanks to my friend, I was able to achieve this end product!
With the 'Multiply' tool, we are able to make it as though the car's wallpaper is Hello Kitty and crumpled as shown above.
Now I know the trick and if people were to post this online, it might be 80% fake!
We can even make all the old and yellow photos become new!
Now we don't even have to think of throwing all the old photographs away and feeling regretful!
Just photoshop them and they're good as new!

Below are some of the things we learnt today!
Creating a pattern as the background.
Cropping the woman and placing her picture onto the beach.
The homework that we were supposed to do.(placing 3 things onto 1 background)

Introduction to InDesign, which is needed for our next CA as we are supposed to come up with a corporate brochure.
This will help get us ready for the CA, but I think it's too much for us to handle in 1 day because most of us are still stuck at Photoshop.
Also the words are unclear and I'm not sure how to make them look nicer.
However, I'll try my best and listen attentively the next lesson!(:

VC day 8

we started on photoshop this week and i was quite excited to learn it because i know that i can edit all my photos to make them look nicer! :P
i was really attentive and listened to what the lecturer said so that i won't have to miss anything .
some parts were quite confusing as usual because it's our first time learning it,
but i managed to overcome the problems and edited the photos that we were told to edit.
we learnt about the brightness and saturation to make the photos look brighter and nicer.
then, we were taught to use the tools to make pimples and flaws disappear!
that was the fun part and i believe everyone were amazed by how it works!
here are some pictures of what we did!

by using the lasso tool, i was able to change the colour of my hair and eye!
also, i used the clone stamp tool to edit away the picture on the top right hand corner!
placing the mascot on the road and making it looks real by creating shadow below his feet.
cutting and placing the hair on him.
changing the colour of the shirt and placing the mask on it.

i hope to learn more during the upcoming lessons and i'm sure i'll have fun doing it because it's so cool and amazing!

Monday 3 June 2013

VC day 7

we were taught the use of the duplication tool and how to type words on the circle .
also ,we needed to use trial and error to make the sides of the star straight .
it was really difficult at first and i wanted to give up so badly ,but i thought that since others can do it ,i can do it too !^^
and i'm pretty proud that my star is so straight and even straighter than the original !(:

image of my name .

using the illustrator tool ,
we learnt how to change the patterns of the fonts as shown in the 2nd picture .
we were also taught how to use make use of colours and use the gradient function to create the colours as seen in the 3rd picture .
we also learnt how to use the slicing tool to cut the pictures/fonts .
one thing i found cool was the combination of shapes that were shown by our lecturer .
it can create a whole new image and it was not difficult to learn !(:

Sunday 2 June 2013

VC day 6

we were taught more things using the illustrator tool and we had to break the different parts up by using "layers".
it was quite difficult at first because i was not really sure about how to use the tool and how to create and "lock" the layers ,
but with the help of my friends and lecturer ,
i managed to do it although it wasn't that good .

i only drew the outline of the lion because i wasn't sure if i should use the same colours or not .

i'm pretty proud of this because it looks identical and i finally get the hang of how to use the tool .

i finally manage to trace my favourite Hello Kitty with the help of my friend and it was done tries after tries .
 during class ,
we also had consultation for our CA and some of the things i did was not enough and i'll definitely do more and work harder !(:

Tuesday 14 May 2013

VC day 5 !

today we were taught the different kinds of logos and mascots and a little bit on the use of the illustrator tool .
we learnt that logo is not a brand and there're 3 kinds of logos :
-logotype (in which it allows ease of recognition)
-symbols (iconic shapes and easily recognisable)
-combination marks (which consists of symbols and name and can be integrated or stand alone)

5 principles of effective logo :
-simple
-memorable
-timeless
-versatile(made to big/small)
-appropriate

also ,
we learnt that mascot is a representative figure and a communication tool for something like fashion or sports .

qualities of good mascot:
-connection to company profession and values .
background story
-appeal
-style for target audience
-props and accessories .

above are some things that we traced out using the illustrator tool .
i think it was really quite confusing and difficult to handle at first because i wasn't really familiar with it and i took quite some time to get used to it but luckily i'm able to adapt to it now and it's actually quite fun and easy to use !(:

Tuesday 7 May 2013

VC day 4 !

we learnt about the history of posters and how they changed overtime .
we also learnt about storyboards and moodboards .
the picture above is an example of a mood board .
the difference between a storyboard is that storyboards shows pictures which are in sequence and tells us a story while moodboards are collage of different pictures and texts to show an overview of something a person wants to show to their target audience .
we also learnt how to use the illustrator tool to create lines and shapes .
it's was quite difficult to understand at first ,
but we slowly managed to get used to it and it was pretty fun using the tool !

Tuesday 30 April 2013

VC day 3 !

here are some visuals that we took for class today !
so basically we learnt about how to take photos of things which consist of the elements :
  • lines
  • frame
  • rule of thirds
  • simplicity
  • balance
and here are some examples which I took !
FRAMING
LINES

SIMPLICITY

 BALANCE

RULE OF THIRD

we also learnt about things like pictogram and ideogram in which pictogram are messages that are conveyed though pictures and ideogram are characters representing a concept .
we also researched about people who created fronts and the different types of symbols in Singapore .
I think I was quite confused with the different styles above because I couldn't quite get what framing was about .
but after awhile I finally understood it and it's just basically making use of the surroundings to create a "frame" and take a picture with the main subject inside the "frame" !

Friday 26 April 2013

day 2 of vc !

drawings which represents me ,surroundings and future .
the perspective drawing of the school .
the 1st drawing on the top is about us and the surroundings .
so I drew myself as stars because although i'm small in size ,
I shine brightly like stars do plus I really love stars a lot !
i drew dots on the 2nd box because it's the texture of the table in class .
I have no idea what i'm drawing for the last box ,
but I was thinking about how messy the world is now ,
so tadaa !
the 3rd box !:P
the 2nd drawing is about perspective and I've actually learnt about it during my lower sec years .
it's actually about drawing something which in the end becomes smaller which is at the vanishing point .
we also learnt about textures like visual and actual ones .
some examples of visual ones are snails and leaves ,
where there're colours and lines .
some examples of actual ones are like wood ,water and clouds .
it's pretty fun drawing because i'm doing something which I've learnt before and i'm able to understand the lesson and what's going on !(:

Tuesday 23 April 2013

day one of visual comm !

on our first day of visual communication module , we learnt how to identify shapes ,lines and etc . when we draw shapes ,
we have to know the structures of each shape in order to draw well .
when we draw lines , we need to consider the different factors like the thickness of the lines ,
the different shades when drawing lines to bring out certain parts of the drawing .

i had fun drawing all the things because i feel that it's really interesting and i love drawing things like cartoons and flowers .
i think my weakest part was drawing my friend because i can't really draw humans , but overall it was fun and engaging !(:
